Whitebrush Manor - Railings and Balcony Floor Trim are Complete

It has been a while since my last post, but there hasn't been much going on in the land of my dollhouse. I was out of town over the July 4th weekend visiting my daughter, and other than that I've just been steadily plugging away at my painting job.

Speaking of which....

I have finished painting all the spindles and have gotten the railings glued together! Wooohoo!!
Very excited about this, as it seems as though it has taken quite a while. Now I can get busy with the porch roof installation, maybe as soon as this weekend.

You may remember me talking about paint pen issues regarding the balcony trim. I finally found a pen that wouldn't explode all over me/the balcony while in use.
In all of my pictures, the grey accent color doesn't show up very well, but it is sort of the "background" color here. It's mostly around the flowers of the trim, and in the "holes" between each of the flowers.

I used the garnet color for the center of the flower, and "gilded" everywhere else. I really like the way it's turned out! Here's a shot of the balcony with the trim glued on (propped up on a balcony railing so you can get a better view of it):
And another:
I want to touch up the corners with some spackling compound to fill in the cracks where the joints just don't perfectly meet, but that can be done at a later date.

Next up: finishing the paint job on the corbels.

  1. The gold looks great. I don't know if I missed it in a previous post, but how did you do the flooring?

    1. Thank you, Maria! And I actually don't think that I mentioned the flooring before, so I'm glad you asked. I just used pre-fabricated flooring sheet scraps in the chevron pattern I had laying around, and cut them to fit the balcony floor. Once glued on and stained they looked pretty darn great, with a minimum amount of effort! ;)
